Guidance on an AI product, a roadmap or a go-to-market plan.
- Focused one-to-one call
- Written summary by email
I turn messy signals into revenue. First retail data at AdVon, now restaurant demand at Dinesurf.
Move over the portrait, then scrollSkip to the recordSize, material, fit, colour. At marketplace scale, most listings arrive thin: blank, inconsistent or wrong. Thin listings rank lower and sell less.
As Senior Product Manager I built the team that taught LLMs to write and check product data, on Google Vertex AI. Walmart's catalog ran 38% cheaper.
Ascential agreed to acquire AdVon Commerce at a $240 million valuation.
I started Dinesurf with my brother Joshua. It turns the demand restaurants already get from Google, Instagram and TikTok into paid bookings and repeat guests.
A website the restaurant owns, and bookings with the deposit paid before the guest arrives. No commission on every cover.
The whole story behind each: the problem, my part, what we shipped, and the numbers, with sources.
AI systems that write and fix product data for Walmart, Amazon, Wayfair and Best Buy. Ascential agreed to acquire AdVon at a $240M valuation.
Websites, reservations with deposits, a guest CRM and newsletters, so restaurants keep the guests they win.

martins@dinesurf.comI led product on the AI systems that write and fix product data for some of the world's largest retailers. In 2021 Ascential agreed to acquire the company at a valuation of $240 million.
Online retail runs on product data: size, material, fit, colour, care. At marketplace scale, many listings arrive thin, inconsistent or wrong. Thin listings rank lower in a retailer's own search and convert worse when shoppers do find them.
Fixing a large catalog by hand takes months. For a retailer carrying millions of SKUs, manual enrichment can't keep up with the rate new products arrive.

An LLM pipeline, using both public and private models, that generates and checks attributes across millions of Walmart SKUs. It cut operating costs by 38%.
We ran our models on Google Vertex AI at a volume that made AdVon one of the top global users of Vertex AI models.
A system that matches publisher articles with retailer product pages at Amazon, Wayfair and Best Buy, so readers land on accurate, current listings.
As Senior Product Manager I built and led the product team, growing it past 12 people across engineering, data science and content specialists.
I owned the roadmap for the AI systems and worked between three groups who needed different things: retail partners who wanted cleaner catalogs fast, Google as our model and infrastructure partner, and our own engineers, who needed a clear problem and room to solve it.
The lesson I took to Dinesurf: AI earns its place when it is wired into work someone already pays for.
From Ascential's announcement of 16 July 2021, where AdVon appears as ASR Group Holdings.
Ascential's CEO, Duncan Painter, pointed to ASR's "leadership in eCommerce independent content optimisation".

A deal valuing the company at $240M.
Ascential's digital commerce business, which AdVon became part of, sold for about $835M. The deal closed in January 2024.
The product-data tooling launched as a product of its own, built on Vertex AI.
“His leadership in developing our AI-powered CMS and PIM systems positioned AdVon Commerce as an industry leader.”

Dinesurf turns the demand restaurants already get from Google, Instagram and TikTok into paid bookings and repeat guests, without a commission on every cover.
Restaurants in Lagos, Kigali and Accra don't lack demand. Guests find them on Instagram and Google, then book one DM at a time. Deposits mean bank transfers and screenshots. Big tables are held on a promise.
When a platform does fill the room, it often charges for every guest and keeps their details. On a quiet Tuesday, the people who loved Saturday can't be reached.
Hospitality is my family's trade. My grandmother and my mother ran restaurants on memory and goodwill. Dinesurf is the system they never had.
On Google, Instagram and TikTok, through a website the restaurant owns.
With the deposit paid before they arrive.
And the host already knows them.
With a docket for every station.
From their own phone. The tab closes itself.
An email goes out on its own.
Booked direct, with no commission.

I co-founded Dinesurf with my brother Joshua. He leads engineering; I lead product, sales and fundraising.
I brought one rule from AdVon: AI earns its place inside work someone already pays for. At Dinesurf that means deposits that collect themselves, guest emails that send themselves, and an AI assistant that can answer an owner's question about last Friday.
We took Dinesurf from New York pitch competitions to a Mastercard partnership, a $5M valuation and live television on CNBC Africa, while selling it table by table in Lagos.
